“When I had freshly graduated from university, I’d never given any thought to take up teaching as a profession. I always thought of teaching as an average and relatively redundant job with zero overall benefits to one’s self. Honestly – I couldn’t have been more wrong. When I first took up teaching it didn’t take me long to realize that it was one of the most noble professions out there. Teaching changed my life, and for the better might I add.
This job brought me nothing but betterments in my life like a better routine, more fitness and certain organisational skills that I never picked up in my student life. I may not look, but the everyday commotion, struggles to meet the deadlines and the excitement has made me FEEL younger too. Teaching gave me the strength, courage and patience to endure several phases of my life where I would otherwise have lost all hope in myself. It might seem cliche to say but it really gave me a whole new perspective in life.
I’ve realized that having a ‘vision’ or aim in your life can benefit you at so many levels. Pursuing a profession as rewarding as teaching, or any other profession for that matter, makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something in life. It makes you feel good about yourself and you start to get positive vibes all around you.
Over the years, I’ve learned lessons from my students that I would have never learned from sitting at home. Things like sincerity with yourself and Allah, earning respect by giving it first, patience and forgiveness, and many more. I’ve become numb to all the negativity and judgement I face from the world.
The pure joy of seeing your students grow and work hard for themselves, the satisfaction of passing on my knowledge to these young adults and the pride I feel knowing that I am moulding the future with my own hands. It is all priceless for me.”
