Fariha Fahim, a shining star of grade 11-C. Fariha is into cricket and she recently played under 19 tournament. She is also in PCB (Pakistan cricket board) and is really passionate about sports, especially cricket.
How long have you been playing cricket?
“When I was around 10, I used to play cricket with my father and my brother, and I was the only girl who used to play cricket with among all the boys in the society. Slowly and gradually I got better at it and the credit goes to my brother who encouraged me and taught me how to play cricket.”
Tell me about your family support on cricket?
“I’m blessed that my parents, my grandparents, and relatives encourage me, motivated me and most of all supported me throughout this journey, and surely without their support I wouldn’t be able to make it this far.”
What is your rule in cricket?
“I’m a wicket-keeper and a batter”
Does it get hard for you to manage your studies with cricket?
“To be very honest, it’s very hard to manage studies with sports because at the time I reach home from school, it’s time for my academy and after that, I have to complete my homework and sometimes I have to take a leave from the academy because of my exams and all but it is very important to manage studies with sports and sometimes it gets hard to but I try to manage it all.”
Do you play any other sports other than cricket?
“I’m into sprinting and I’m good at football and badminton too”
How did you get into professional cricket?
“When I was in class 8, Sir Arsalan my PT sir in KDA campus took me to give trails which were held in National Stadium Karachi, and from there I got selected and the real hustle begins. After that, I practised for 6 months straight and took part in various tournaments like the Ramzan cricket tournament. I played Sindh cup and other cricket tournaments and then I played different matches too, and now recently I played under 19 tournament which was held in Lahore”
Fariha, fill us in about the under 19 tournament you took part in which was held in Lahore.
“After all the hard work and continuous practice, I was among the 14 girls who got a chance to represent their region, Sindh in the under 19 tournament. Team Sindh went in the finals and fought to the last over but unfortunately couldn’t win it but the efforts matter.”
What did you learn from this experience?
“I learned how to live independently, I learned how to travel independently, and how to interact with people of different cultures, also I learned the language and I learned how to live life full of rules and regulations and time management.”
What is your dream in cricket?
“I want to become a successful cricketer and want to represent Pakistan internationally, other than that I want to make the fastest century in the T-20 format”
Is there any advice you want to give to the audience
“If you’re really passionate enough about your goals or about your dreams, so just work never give up, just focus on your dreams and work hard for your dreams because dreams do come true”
