It was my birthday and to celebrate, my family and I were going to a new restaurant. To be honest I was extremely excited, I thought that the coming hours were going to make my day, but I guess I spoke too soon.
On the way my younger sister started to vomit, maybe because of nausea or something like that. We had to stop at a hospital instead. After waiting for what felt like days in the hospital’s waiting area, with the saddest and most convincing look I could muster up at the moment, I asked my dad for a birthday cake. I knew it was futile but it was worth a shot. Sure enough, it actually worked.
He went off to look around in the hospital and ended up in a gift shop, you know the ones with little gifts for the PATIENTS to make them feel better. All he got for me was a helium balloon from the hospital’s gift shop. I spent four hours of the best day of the year at the hospital’s waiting area with nothing but a balloon in my hand and different variations of fantasies I made up about what an amazing birthday I would’ve had today, playing in an endless loop inside my head.
We left for home since there was no way that particular restaurant would have been open for me at that hour of the night. To cheer me up, my father stopped the car at a bakery. He bought pastries for all of us. Finally, a silver lining. We got home and it turns out they all had gone bad ages ago. I guess I spoke too soon… Again.
sometimes, a helium balloon is also a blessing for your b-day. You should be thankful that you have your loved ones who remember your b-day, because around the world, there are people who wish that they had their loved ones for their b-days. So, be thankful.
