Independence day celebration and Climate Change Action

On the prestigious day of the 74th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence, Global Citizenship students of grades X and XI, under the guidance of Miss Muddassir Raza, conducted an online seminar focusing on the 14th August celebration and addressing the most important issue: Climate Change in Pakistan and its practical solutions.

The event took on a roll with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by an online flag-raising ceremony. Throughout the discussion, Miss Muddassir kept her audience busy by narrating stories regarding her love and patriotism for the country, coupled with Miss Huma Shayan singing a national song (the audience also began singing in sync), and Miss Sanjeeda narrating the poem she wrote, made the event all the more interesting. The appearance of alumni Ayesha Siddiqua and other teachers including Miss Asra, Miss Ammarah, Miss Nasira, Miss Fahima, Miss Sadaf, Miss Madiha and Sir Ahsan Naqvi really encouraged the students who were presenting their ideas.

The students presented speeches, discussions, and videos of national songs and some quizzes to ensure that the audience doesn’t yawn off their time while attending the show. The XI graders openly discussed and addressed the issue of climate change and made a great effort in delivering their message(It was their community project for the session), which made the audience think about the impact they were having on the climate.

X grade students also reflected their thoughts on their love for the country by narrating “Hope stories of Pakistanis”, which was in itself a very interesting segment full of motivation and patriotism. The purpose of this segment was to remind the audience about the fact that hardships do end one time or another; with Inspiring stories of Sher Shah Akhtar (presented by Fatima Imran), Doctor Anum Anjum, Dr Ruth, and Ansar Burney, which kindled hope in the hearts of the audience. The interactive session where the teachers and students both participated worked as a refreshing tool for the audience.

All in all, the online event began at 2:00 pm and lasted two more hours full of entertainment and a feeling of belonging and love for the country and the environment. In the end, a pledge was taken by the GC students to bring good in society and adhere to a nature-loving life. Such informative and enjoyable events should be conducted more often as they refresh the students and teachers during such tough times.

Laiba Adamji
This is Laiba. On a normal school night at 3:00 am, you will find her dancing to Taylor Swift, or having a staring contest with the walls of her room (Spoiler alert: The wall wins). She loves the moon, the stars, and anything about the sky that is either celestial or made of clouds. Laiba likes the joy of simple living and just existing and somehow still believes that she is destined for greatness (truly, a paradox, who eats ice cubes for fun).
